During the Spring Festival, everything is renewed. In the joyous and peaceful festive atmosphere, Master Shi Xing Wu of Xing Wu Zen Temple in Canada led his disciples into the community to extend New Year’s blessings to the local people of all ethnicities with a wonderful lion dance, the “picking the greens” ritual, and a Chinese Kung Fu performance.

With the resounding beat of gongs and drums, the auspicious lion leaps into the air. The lion dance, plucking the green leaves, symbolizes “bringing wealth and good fortune, and continuous advancement,” representing the warding off of evil and welcoming auspiciousness. As the lively lions tumble and dance to the beat of the drums, plucking the green leaves and spitting out blessings, the audience erupts in applause and cheers. The auspicious lion dance not only ignites the festive atmosphere but also conveys the spiritual power of traditional Chinese culture.

The subsequent Chinese Kung Fu performance brought the atmosphere to a climax, with thunderous applause from the audience. The disciples’ display of the broadsword was powerful and imposing; the Changhong sword combined strength and gentleness; the Tai Chi Chuan combined movement and stillness; and the Kung Fu boxing was swift, precise, and fluid. Every move showcased the power and spirit of traditional martial arts.

Master Shi Xing Wu personally demonstrated the Five Elements Fist, displaying a restrained and composed demeanor. With his solid foundation, he fully demonstrated the style of a master, interpreting the spirit of “unity of Zen and martial arts” and embodying the Eastern wisdom of self-cultivation

This Lunar New Year performance was not only a cultural spectacle, but also a blessing that transcended ethnicity and language. In Canada’s multicultural landscape, traditional Chinese arts, with their unique charm, interacted and connected with people from diverse backgrounds, bringing hearts closer together. Amidst laughter and joy, cultural exchange and shared sentiments deepened the warmth of the Lunar New Year.

Master Shi Xing Wu stated that the Lunar New Year is a time for gratitude and blessings. Promoting Chinese culture through lion dance and kung fu is both a responsibility and a heartfelt wish. He hopes to be guided by Zen principles and guided by martial virtue, integrating compassion and righteousness into the community, bringing more peace and light to society.

The drumbeats have faded, but the auspicious atmosphere remains.

May the new year bring favorable weather, national prosperity, and peace;

May every family enjoy peace and joy, and increase in blessings and wisdom;

May the light of culture shine forever, and may kindness always prevail.

Happy New Year, and may all your wishes come true.
