Recently, Venerable Shi Xing Wu of Xing Wu Zen Temple in Canada, along with his students and disciples, accepted an invitation from the Vancouver Elizabeth Midsummer Seaside Arts Festival to perform a wonderful charity Chinese martial arts show at the renowned Kitsilano Showboat outdoor cultural stage in Vancouver. The event aimed to foster friendship through martial arts and promote cultural exchange.

In the height of summer in Vancouver, a gentle sea breeze blew and the sun shone brightly. The event featured a variety of wonderful Chinese cultural performances, attracting many locals and tourists to stop and enjoy the show. The atmosphere was lively and filled with applause.

During the performance, Master Shi Xingwu led his disciples and students onto the stage with great enthusiasm, showcasing traditional martial arts such as group kung fu boxing, shield and sword, long rainbow sword, yin hand stick, seven star fist, double tassel spear, and group large broadsword.

Master Shi Xing Wu personally demonstrated a set of Wujiquan (a style of Chinese martial arts). His movements were fluid and graceful, combining strength and gentleness. Each move was steady and powerful, fully demonstrating the unique skill of Chinese martial arts, which emphasizes both internal and external cultivation and the unity of form and spirit. He won rounds of applause and cheers from the audience.

After the performance, many locals lingered for a long time, and many Western audience members took the initiative to talk with the monks, learning about Chinese Kung Fu and traditional Chinese culture, showing a strong interest in Chinese martial arts. This open community public welfare performance not only allowed more people to experience the beauty of Chinese martial arts up close, but also built a bridge for exchange between different cultures.

Master Shi Xingwu stated that Kung Fu is not only a martial art for strengthening the body, but also embodies the wisdom of traditional Chinese culture. The principle of “stopping war through martial arts” advocated by martial arts reflects the spirit of respecting life, upholding morality and etiquette, and cultivating oneself. True Kung Fu is not just about honing one’s fists and feet, but also about cultivating the mind, cultivating virtue, and cultivating oneself, resolving conflict with compassion, and promoting harmony with wisdom.

The Master stated that promoting Chinese culture overseas requires not only its inheritance but also proactively engaging with communities and integrating into society, enabling more people of different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to recognize Chinese culture and understand Chinese martial arts. Canada is a multicultural country, and cultural exchange can enhance understanding, build consensus, and inject more positive energy into building harmonious communities.

Making friends through martial arts and cultivating character through culture. Between each punch and each gesture of respect, more than just martial arts skills are conveyed; it is the Chinese nation’s cultural spirit of valuing virtue, etiquette, and harmonious coexistence. Such public-spirited cultural exchanges not only promote mutual understanding between different cultures but also allow Chinese culture to flourish overseas, sowing seeds of peace, friendship, and inclusiveness in the community.

For many years, Xingwu Temple in Canada has always adhered to the mission of “promoting Chinese culture, serving the community, and promoting diversity and inclusion.” Under the leadership of Venerable Xingwu, it actively participates in various community public welfare activities and continuously carries out public welfare courses and activities such as traditional culture, martial arts, meditation and health preservation, charitable care, and cultural exchanges, serving the community and giving back to society with practical actions.

The Canadian Xingwu Zen Temple thanks the Vancouver Elizabeth Midsummer Seaside Arts Festival for its invitation and support. Culture flourishes through exchange, and civilization is enriched through mutual learning. We hope to promote righteousness with a fist and spread civilization with etiquette, allowing Chinese martial arts to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries, conveying friendship, compassion, and peace, and contributing to building a more inclusive, harmonious, and benevolent diverse society.
