The 2026 Canadian International Wushu Championships successfully concluded on July 25th at the Richmond Olympic Oval in Canada. Wushu teams, coaches, referees, and athletes from Canada, the United States, China, Calgary, the Sunshine Coast, Toronto, and other countries and regions gathered to exchange skills and promote martial arts, creating a spectacular martial arts event.

This event is jointly organized by the Canadian Shi Xing Wu Shaolin Zen Wu Cultural Centre, the Canadian Wushu Tai Chi Heritage Alliance, and the International Sports Culture Development Promotion Association, with the Canadian Xing Wu Zen Temple as a co-organizer. It aims to promote the excellent traditional Chinese martial arts culture, facilitate international martial arts exchange and cooperation, promote the development of martial arts in Canada and North America, and allow more people from different cultural backgrounds to understand Chinese culture and experience the spirit of martial arts through martial arts.

This competition received support and congratulatory messages from all three levels of government in Canada. Representatives from Member of Parliament Parm Bains, Richmond City Councillor Alexa Loo, and MLA Teresa Wat, Consul Hu Baoli from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Vancouver, Qian Hua, Chairman of the Chinese Benevolent Association, Li Rong, Vice Chief Referee of the competition, National First-Class Referee and founder of Sanxing Tai Chi, Li Jintao, Vice Chief Referee of the competition, Mo Fan, founder of the Mo Fan Tai Chi Martial Arts Promotion Center, Mo Fan, founder of the Mo Fan Tai Chi Martial Arts Promotion Center, Mo Fan, President of the Canadian Hunting and Shooting Sports Association and leader of the Western Canadian People’s Party, and other guests delivered speeches. Representatives from the martial arts community and many Chinese community organizations were also invited to attend and witness this grand martial arts event.

During the athletes’ entrance ceremony, multiple martial arts teams from various regions, led by the referees, strode confidently into the arena with high spirits and great energy.

The Wushu Championship is not only a competition but also a splendid showcase of Chinese martial arts culture. On the field, the athletes displayed high spirits and fighting spirit, demonstrating the unique charm of Chinese martial arts—a blend of strength and gentleness, internal and external cultivation—through their superb fist techniques, skillful weapon mastery, and excellent martial ethics. Every participant met the challenge with their best, interpreting their passion with sweat and earning applause through hard work.

Martial arts is an important part of China’s outstanding traditional culture, embodying wisdom, strength, and cultivation. It is also a common language that transcends language, culture, and national boundary.

Chinese martial arts have always emphasized “stopping war is true martial arts.” The true spirit of martial arts is not to glorify fighting, but to stop conflict and safeguard peace. A true martial artist does not bully the weak, nor does he judge heroes by victory or defeat, but rather establishes himself with virtue, treats others with courtesy, and values harmony. This spirit is precisely the enduring cultural value of Chinese martial arts.

We hope that through this conference, martial arts can become a bridge connecting different cultures, allowing more people to know and understand martial arts, feel the charm of sports, the warmth of culture, and the power of diversity and integration.

The opening ceremony performance featured a golden dragon dance by students from the Canadian Shi Xing Wu Shaolin Zen Wu Cultural Center, symbolizing vigorous progress and auspiciousness, setting a splendid prelude to the grand event.

Following this was a breathtaking Tai Chi performance by 100 people. Led by the chairman and chief referee, Master Shi Xing Wu , more than 130 martial arts groups and Tai Chi enthusiasts from Vancouver gathered at the venue after more than a month of rigorous training. They presented a stunning Tai Chi performance to the audience, fully demonstrating the firm belief and spirit of unity of overseas Chinese in inheriting the excellent traditional Chinese culture.

Students from the Canadian Shi Xingwu Shaolin Zen Wu Cultural Center gave a spectacular shield and knife performance.

Finally, the young martial artists from the Mofan Tai Chi Martial Arts Center in Calgary displayed remarkable skill and proficiency, demonstrating mastery of various weapons and techniques. Their solid foundation and balanced movements showcased the unique charm and profound heritage of Chinese martial arts, highlighting the perseverance and hard work of young martial arts practitioners in the new era. The spectacular performance earned thunderous applause from the guests and audience, marking a splendid opening to the Canadian International Wushu Championships.

The afternoon’s competitions proceeded smoothly and efficiently, and after fierce competition, all events were successfully completed. Many outstanding athletes achieved excellent results thanks to their solid fundamentals, tenacious fighting spirit, and outstanding performance. We extend our warmest congratulations to all the award-winning athletes! You have reaped honors through perseverance and hard work, and exemplified the spirit of martial arts practitioners in the new era through your struggle and dedication. We hope that everyone will take this competition as a new starting point, continue their efforts, achieve even greater success, and contribute even more to the development of Chinese martial arts.

The successful hosting of the 2026 Canada International Wushu Championship not only built a platform for martial arts enthusiasts from all over the world to exchange and learn, but also further promoted international martial arts cultural exchange, allowing more people from different cultural backgrounds to know, understand, and love martial arts, and experience the profoundness and infinite charm of Chinese culture.

Although the competition has ended, the spirit of martial arts will continue to be passed down. Let us take this grand event as a new starting point, continue to uphold the concept of “making friends through martial arts and nourishing the heart with virtue,” and work together to promote Chinese martial arts to the world, so that the excellent traditional Chinese culture can be passed on from generation to generation overseas.

At 5 p.m., the closing ceremony group performances were by Yun Tai Chi Club, Vancouver Chen Style Tai Chi Team, and Canadian Taiyi Youlongquan Association. They presented wonderful performances of Chen Style Tai Chi 18 Form, 49 Form Tai Chi Sword, and Youlongquan Chengfeng Sword, among others.

Introduction to the Xing Wu Zen Temple Society of Canada

The Xing Wu Zen Temple Society of Canada was established on February 10, 2022. It is a charity officially approved by the Canadian federal government.

The main purpose of the society is to promote religious development and help alleviate the poverty of those in need or with low incomes.
